About VICKI HONE SMITH
I am drawn to the light, to color, texture and shapes, and to stories told in the images I shoot. Whether I am looking out my window at storm clouds rolling in, walking in the arboretum or along a canal in Venice, I am aroused by and driven to capture the poetry in the images I see.
Photography has been a passion of mine since I was a young girl. Forever curious about the photos my father was always taking, I got my first camera when I was nine. But it wasn't until I got my first 35mm camera in college that I began to discover the joy of photography. As far back as I can remember, I was fascinated by trees with all their intricate branches, and loved to draw them. When I got my 35mm camera, I once again found myself drawn to them, to the way the light illuminated the leaves from behind, the veins running through them, the shadows they would throw and the sunlight streaming through the branches. The more I looked around me and through the lens, the more I was drawn in, to the creative energy residing within.
So it began, always exploring, looking beyond what I saw at first glance, into the nuances, the patterns and play of light. I am still taking photographs, still working to hone my craft and create better images, with the same goal - to communicate the poetry I see all around me, to invoke curiosity, conversation and emotion in the viewer.
