My sister and I were sitting in a cafe along the Piazza del Campo, when it began to rain heavily. The waiters were dashing around frantically trying to put up the awnings, the piazza soon was deserted as people took cover at the cafe or across the way. Then suddenly this couple took off, arm in arm under their umbrella. Luckily I had my camera out and was able to get this shot. There was such an intimacy to the moment, with their arms around each other and his head turned toward her. The red of her shirt and the orange umbrella really made them stand out in the bleakness of the piazza.

I am drawn to the light, to color, texture and shapes, and to stories told in the images I shoot. Whether I am looking out my window at storm clouds rolling in, walking in the arboretum or along a canal in Venice, I am aroused by and driven to capture the essence in the images I see. So it begins, always exploring, looking beyond what I see at first glance, into the nuances, the patterns and play of light. My goal, to communicate the poetry I see all around me, to invoke curiosity, conversation and emotion in the viewer.
